Tomáš graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University in 1994. In 1996 he received his LL.M. from the Central European University, followed by a Ph.D. (2002) and JUDr. (2005) from the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University in Brno.
From 2011 to 2014, he was a professor at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands, where he held the Chair in Cross-Border Corporate Insolvency Law. In 2018, he was appointed associate professor of commercial law at the University of Economics in Prague.
He has been a lawyer since 1998.
From 1996 to 2004, he worked at Allen & Overy in Prague, London and Frankfurt am Main. In 2005 he was a partner at Noerr Stiefenhofer Lutz in Prague. In 2006–2021 he was Of counsel at Clifford Chance in Prague.
He also acts as an arbitrator at the Exchange Arbitration Court at the Prague Stock Exchange.
He specialises in resolving corporate bankruptcies and related disputes.
He chairs the INSOL Europe Academic Forum and is a member of the board of the International Insolvency Institute.
As a member of a group of private experts, he consulted the European Commission on the draft European Insolvency Regulation2015/848 and European Restructuring Directive 2019/1023.
